A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon is directly between Earth and the Sun. At this time, new opportunities come out of the periphery and all possibilities for change are on the table. It’s a powerful time for manifesting new beginnings.
The Eclipse occurs at 8:28pm on Saturday, January 5th EST at 15 degrees of Capricorn; double check for the exact time of the Eclipse in your location!Â

With the new year having just begun and coming out of the heavy retrograde energies that were predominant last fall, this is a time to strategically evaluate the road ahead. During the Venus retrograde cycle last fall, you may have had new realizations about your relationships or business affairs, so it’s a good idea to practically re-assess your priorities and expectations for the future. If you’re not sure what you want for yourself in the future, now is a good time to explore.
Eclipses represent the seeds of new beginnings, which may either be subtle or very obvious. Saturn, which rules the manifestation of our ideas and visions into physical form, will be conjunct the Sun and Moon at the time of the eclipse. This amplifies the manifesting power of this New Moon, but also demands a commitment to discipline, dedication and consistency in how you work towards what you want to achieve. Whatever you wish for now, you must work to establish the habits required to follow it through.
This can also be a time to release those limiting beliefs or other forms of self-sabotage that have traditionally held you back in your life. The Sun transiting Saturn in early January can illuminate any tendencies to overwork or get overwhelmed with unrealistically high expectations. Narrow your focus this year so that you can set yourself up for success. Let go of the need for perfectionism, finding the balance between what you truly want for yourself and what you think you should be or have by anyone else’s standards.
There is a long-term theme of Pluto (the ‘Shiva’ archetype of destruction, radical transformation and new beginnings), bringing major shifts to our collective understanding of success, leadership and ambition. This energy has been gradually building and shifting ideology for over a decade and this Solar Eclipse begins to reveal the new directions your path is starting to take as a result. Moving through these ‘astrovibes’ from an empowered standpoint means being willing to release the structures and belief systems which are no longer relevant in your life.

Astrological Aspects Accompanying the January 2019 Solar Eclipse
1)Â Sun and Moon Conjunct Saturn in Capricorn
We started to feel the influence of this transit as of late December 2018 as the Sun approached Saturn and continue to feel its effects through January. Saturn represents ‘hard work’, discipline and commitment, and this New Moon brings the opportunity to refresh, reset and refocus your commitments. It can be a time to get in touch with your core purpose and evaluate how you’re spending your energy in pursuit of these objectives. What do you want to be known for, or what do you want to accomplish professionally? The New Moon is wonderful for refocusing your intentions and also for making wishes (see more below!) where you can energetically call in the support you need for what you want to manifest.
If your desire is to make important changes in your life, now is a great time! Under this energetic influence, we have greater support for forming new, lasting habits and routines. This is also a time to take care of unfinished business and also when sustained hard work is more likely to be rewarded. Just be careful to maintain realistic expectations for yourself and avoid taking on too much. Prioritize what you want now.
2)Â Sun and Moon Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn
Attention is being brought to things which are ‘broken’ and need repair or replacement. Rebirth and regeneration are energetic experiences associated with Pluto and the Sun transiting here in January brings to your attention the need to let go of what’s no longer useful. You may also be challenged to examine your deepest desires for fulfillment related to power, recognition and material success.
3) Jupiter in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces
Be skeptical of ‘get-rich-quick’ schemes or anything that seems too good to be true as this transit brings the experience of ‘misguided optimism’, which can lead to recklessness or foolish risk-taking. It can also lead to disillusionment or a crisis of faith where your trust has been misplaced in a ‘false prophet’ of some kind. The energies of this transit are challenging you to become more grounded, by balancing the desire to transcend or be liberated from restricting structures in your life with completely checking out from reality.  It will be important to take a broad, collective focus, rather than spending all of your energy on personal indulgences.
This energy has the effect of disintegrating your ‘rose colored glasses’, so moving through this transit means that it’s important to be willing to see beyond (and ultimately let go of) romantic idealism which may be in effect for you. You can also become more consciously aware of where you avoid or escape life and work to address the underlying beliefs that are holding you back. This transit can bring about the action needed to break out of isolationist or self-sabotaging tendencies by developing a greater sense of optimism, courage and enthusiasm about life.
