Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, January 12th, 2020

The transformational forces in Capricorn signal a period of tension and radical change related to the ways in which you experience success, leadership and integrity.

This transit is a calling to embody your personal values in all areas of life.

Influences of the Saturn/Pluto Conjunction

The relationship between Saturn and Pluto corresponds to the way in which fear and power play a role in your personal beliefs. On a larger scale these dynamics can be witnessed in mainstream values.

Capricorn rules your notion of success, leadership and respectability, as well as the traditions and foundational structures supporting our society. Pluto in Capricorn since 2008 has been sowing the seeds of radical transformation in these areas of our lives and our culture. Its influences are experienced initially as destruction, loss and fear.

Pluto represents the struggle between good and evil playing out in the collective unconscious. Pluto in Capricorn rules extreme expressions of ambition and dark or corrupt uses of power, as well as the exposure of those abuses.

Saturn’s influence in Capricorn since December 2017 represents the effort to establish new structures needed to replace what has become obsolete. Through frustration, Saturn calls you to realize your personal strength and become more self-reliant. It calls for focus, commitment and self-discipline.

The alignment of Saturn and Pluto in January 2020 marks a turning point; the end of a 37-year cycle that began with the last conjunction in 1982, and the beginning of a new cycle. A period of constraint and frustration, which has been intensifying over the last 14 months, reaches a peak and a break.

This conjunction brings a shift in the balance of power, which can enable new leadership to emerge and cultural norms to be redefined, especially around fame, success and respectability. Groups that have been previously marginalized in society may become more empowered.

This energy triggers the redefinition of structures which have assigned certain individuals power over others. It exposes restrictive or repressive forces, such as authority figures and established traditions in our culture. In the process, these shifts can bring stress to the financial system and other structures that define how our society is organized.

On an individual level, this transit brings an experience of constraint which calls you to name your top priorities, and narrow your focus. You may feel that you have been striving to express yourself more authentically; to be recognized, and respected, for who you truly are. To do so, you must be clear with yourself and the world about what it means to embody your values of integrity. You will also need to confront the deep-seeded emotions such as fear, rage and/or insecurity, which have driven you to compromise these values in the past.

As we reach this turning point, and in the wake of tremendous loss, there is a calling to rebuild. These shifts can support you to grow out of relationships defined by persistent power struggles, as well as learning to use power in more responsible ways. The Saturn/Pluto conjunction calls for commitment to a new way of approaching life, with greater maturity, intention, and resilience as well as the embodiment of your true values.

Remember that in its highest vibrations, Capricorn energy represents alignment between who you are in private, and who you are with others.
