Super Full Moon in Capricorn: Success and Self-Mastery – July 13th, 2022

This Super Full Moon in Capricorn conjunct Pluto brings up themes around power and personal integrity and fulfillment.

Capricorn is a complicated archetype. At its best, it’s the passionate entrepreneur – an inspiring combination of vision, diligence and commitment to self-mastery. In this high vibration, hard work brings a sense of joyful purpose. The ultimate goal is quality, integrity and the authentic expression of one’s craft.

This Full Moon calls you to consider what success means to YOU – what truly inspires, fulfills and motivates you to be your best self? For some, the answer is power, wealth, fame, reputation, and status – but only if these are your definition of success.

Throughout the month of July, the Cancer season is inviting you to explore how you can express your heart’s essence authentically in the world.

A powerful Grand Trine in Water brings activations of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces – representing intuition, empathy, compassion, radical truth telling and the healing of old wounds. At the heart of Water energy is courage and this involves the willingness to engage in brave conversations, feel deeply and act boldly from a place of universal love rather than fear. How can you embody more feminine expressions of power and strength?

In its shadow expression, Capricorn becomes a rigid, misguided authoritarian, with too much focus on control and power as outcomes in and of themselves. The ultimate goal becomes so seductive that the integrity of the process is sacrificed. Then, even if the desired endgame is achieved, it cannot bring true fulfillment.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Are you expressing yourself authentically through your ‘work’ in the world?
  • What is your definition of success? How has this shifted or evolved throughout your life? What needs to be brought into alignment now?
  • What values are you embodying as a leader, caretaker or advocate? Where are you being too rigid? Where are you being too passive? What truths need to be called out?

The Bigger Picture of Pluto in Capricorn + America’s Pluto Return

Over the last 14 years, the sign of Capricorn has been heavily activated by Pluto (as well as Saturn and Jupiter), triggering intense power struggles and a profound process of transformation. In society, Capricorn rules the systems in place that determine who has the power and who will be subordinated – including structures of government and the patriarchy. This activation has playing out in the epic struggles between forces competing for an absolute ‘seat of power’ on the one hand vs individual freedom on the other.

Pluto takes ~246 years to orbit the entire zodiac. During the last transit of Pluto in Capricorn (1762-1778) there was a bitter struggle for power between the English monarchy and its New World colonies, resulting in the American Declaration of Independence. The American Pluto Return represents an evolutionary need to confront and reckon with corruption in its systems of power and to revisit its core values around individual freedoms, equality and self-governance.

In the 16th century when Pluto again was in Capricorn, there was a radical intellectual movement which called out the corruption of leadership in the Roman Catholic church, including excessive taxation, indulgences and restricting access to spiritual texts to religious leaders. This movement resulted in the formation of a Protestant (‘protest’) sect of Christianity.
